BEFORE and AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO PREPARE for your permanent makeup appointment by category

    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and energy drinks for 24 hours before your appointment (they thin the blood and increase bleeding).

    • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or blood-thinning medications for at least 48 hours before (unless prescribed by your doctor).

    • Avoid fish oil, vitamin E, and other supplements that may thin the blood for 1 week prior.

    • Stop using Retin-A, retinols, glycolic acid, and chemical exfoliants on the treatment area at least 4 weeks before.

    • Discontinue Accutane for at least 1 year before treatment.

    • Avoid tanning and sunburns for 2 weeks before. Skin must not be irritated or peeling.

    • No facials, peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments on the area within 2 weeks.

    • Come with a clean face—no makeup, lotions, or skincare on the treated area.

    • If you are sick, have cold sores, or have any skin irritation on the treatment area, you must reschedule.n text goes here

    • Do not wax, thread, or tint your brows for at least 72 hours before.

    • Botox or fillers near the brow area must be done at least 2-4 weeks prior.

    • Bring photos of your preferred brow style if you have one.

    • If you are prone to cold sores/fever blisters, you must take a prescribed antiviral (e.g., Valtrex) from your doctor before your appointment to prevent an outbreak.

    • Exfoliate lips gently with a sugar scrub and keep them moisturized in the days leading up to your procedure.

    • Avoid lip injections or fillers for at least 4 weeks prior.

    • Do not use lip plumpers, harsh scrubs, or whitening toothpaste before your appointment.

    • Arrive with clean, bare lips (no lipstick, balm, or gloss).

    • Do not wear lash extensions—they must be removed at least 48 hours before your appointment.

    • Do not use lash growth serums for 4 weeks prior (they thin the skin and cause sensitivity).

    • No eyelash tinting, lifting, or perming for at least 2 weeks before.

    • Remove all eye makeup before your appointment.

    • Bring your glasses instead of wearing contact lenses during the procedure.

HOW TO TAKE CARE of your permanent makeup by category

    • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 hours.

    • Do not touch, scratch, or pick at scabs or flakes—this can cause pigment loss and scarring.

    • Avoid makeup, skincare products, and cleansers on the treated area until fully healed.

    • Keep out of direct sun, tanning beds, saunas, pools, hot tubs, and gyms for at least 10–14 days.

    • Avoid sweating heavily during the healing period.

    • Use only the aftercare ointment provided in a thin layer—do not over-apply.

    • Healing takes about 7–14 days for the surface and up to 6 weeks for pigment to settle.

    • For the first 24 hours: gently blot with a clean tissue to absorb any lymph fluid.

    • Days 2–10: lightly wash brows once daily with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and pat dry.

    • Apply a thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment for a week.

    • Expect flaking and scabbing around days 4–7—this is normal. Do not pick.

    • Avoid brow makeup until fully healed.

    • Lips may feel swollen or tight for 1–2 days. Lip color will be it's darkest on day 2.

    • On day 3, keep lips moisturized with the provided ointment—apply a thin layer regularly to prevent dryness.

    • Drink liquids with a straw for the first few days to avoid moisture exposure.

    • Avoid hot, spicy, or salty foods for the first couple of days—they may sting and interfere with healing.

    • Expect peeling or flaking around days 3–7. Do not pick.

    • Use a new, clean tube of lip balm or lipstick after healing to avoid infection.

    • For clients with a history of cold sores: continue prescribed antiviral medication as directed to prevent an outbreak.

    • Expect slight swelling or puffiness for 1–2 days; apply a cool compress (clean cloth, no ice directly on skin) if needed.

    • Do not wear mascara, lash serum, or eyeliner until fully healed.

    • Avoid rubbing or tugging on eyelids.

    • Keep the lash line dry—no water, cleansers, or oils until healed.

    • Avoid lash extensions, lifts, or tinting for at least 4 weeks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • A: Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing, is a technique where pigment is implanted into the skin to enhance features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. It creates natural-looking results that last for years, though periodic touch-ups are needed to maintain color.

  • A: Results typically last 1–3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow aftercare. Brows may fade faster on oily skin, eyeliner usually lasts the longest, and lip blushing requires maintenance to stay fresh. Most clients come back every 1–2 years for a color boost.

  • A: Most clients describe the feeling as mild discomfort rather than pain. A topical anesthetic is used throughout the procedure to keep you comfortable. Pain tolerance varies, but most people find it very manageable.

  • A new appointment typically takes somewhere between 1.5 - 2 hours. That includes our consultation, the mapping, color mixing (custom for you!) and then the actual application. A touchup appointment typically takes 30 minutes to an hour at the most.

  • A: Permanent makeup is a two-step process. Your first session lays the foundation, and a touch-up session (6–12 weeks later) is needed to refine the color and shape. After that, maintenance sessions are recommended every 1–3 years.

  • A: The treated area will go through phases of darkening, flaking, and lightening before the color settles. Healing takes about 7–14 days on the surface, but the pigment takes up to 6 weeks to fully stabilize. Expect the color to fade by 30–50% during healing—that’s normal.

  • A deposit is required to reserve your appointment. This deposit is applied toward the total cost of your service and ensures that your time is secured on my schedule.

Please note that deposits are non-refundable. When you book, I set aside that time exclusively for you—preparing supplies, blocking off my calendar, and turning away other clients for that slot. If you cancel or don’t show, that time cannot be recovered.

Rescheduling with at least 48 hours’ notice will allow your deposit to transfer to a new appointment date. Cancellations or no-shows without proper notice will result in forfeiture of the deposit.

  • A: No makeup should be applied directly on the treated area until fully healed (about 10–14 days). You can still wear makeup on other areas of your face. Once healed, you’re free to apply makeup over the area if you want a bolder look.

  • A: Risks include infection, allergic reaction, or undesired results if aftercare is not followed. Choosing a licensed and trained artist (like me!) greatly minimizes these risks. You’ll also complete a medical questionnaire to ensure you’re a good candidate.

  • A: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, anyone on Accutane within the last year, people with uncontrolled diabetes, certain autoimmune conditions, or a history of keloid scarring should not undergo permanent makeup. A full list of contraindications will be reviewed before booking.

  • A: Avoid alcohol, caffeine, blood-thinning medications, tanning, and skincare acids/retinols before your appointment. Come with a clean face and no makeup on the treatment area. For lips, exfoliate and hydrate them in the days before your session.

  • A: My process involves careful mapping, color matching, and client approval before any pigment is placed. Permanent makeup heals softer and more natural than it looks on day one. Adjustments can always be made at the touch-up session.

  • A: Most clients can return to normal activities right away, but the treated area will look darker and bolder for the first few days. You’ll need to avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, and sun exposure during the initial healing phase (about 10–14 days).

  • A: Tipping is never required, but it’s always appreciated. Permanent makeup is a specialized service that combines artistry with technical skill, similar to hairstyling or esthetics. Many clients choose to tip 15–20% as they would for other beauty services, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable. A kind review or referral is just as valuable and always deeply appreciated!

  • A: There are almost always free parking spots on Jackson Ave. and Constance Street. There are also parking meters along Magazine St. that you would pay through an app and the cost is very reasonable.
